Pigments are what gives paint it’s color. There are two types of pigments, organic and inorganic. Organic pigments are based on carbon chains and rings and carbon-based pigments come from things like plants and animals. Inorganic pigments consist of dry ground minerals, usually metals and metallic salts. Both inorganic and organic pigments come with their own positives and negatives. Inorganic pigments tend to be more cost effective but can appear more dull in appearance. Organic pigments tend to be more expensive but their color quality is far superior than inorganic. This article by Brenntag covers more in depth the differences between organic and inorganic pigments, and how to decide which is best for you.
